Ludhiana, November 15

The Delhi government on Monday said that it was ready to impose a lockdown in the national capital to overcome the air pollution issue in the state. It told the Supreme Court that it was ready to take steps like complete lockdown, however, it will have a limited impact on the issue.

The top court had asked for an emergency plan from the Delhi government to improve the air quality. Also, on Monday, Supreme Court directed the Centre to call an emergency meeting to take measures like stopping non-essential construction, transport, power plants and implementation of work from home.

In its affidavit, Arvind Kejriwal’s government said that the lockdown will have little impact on the air pollution crisis. Similar restrictions will be required in the national capital’s neighbouring districts too, they added in the affidavit.

The government said that they were ready to implement a complete lockdown but that would be meaningful if it is implemented in the areas across the NCR region in the neighbouring states as well.

The Delhi government had already announced closing physical classes in the school for a week. Other than that, it had advised private offices to consider Work From Home for a week. Also, construction work has been called off for three days.

Chief Justice NV Ramana had asked for a plan and had called the situation in Delhi “very serious”.
