Ludhiana, January 31

After a long wait, Congress issued their third and final list of candidates for Punjab Assembly elections that are going to be held on February 20.

On Sunday, Congress released the third list of candidates and chose Ishwarjot Cheema for the Ludhiana South seat.

Soon after the announcement, senior Congress leader KK Bawa, who wanted to contest the election from the South seat, condemned the decision.

KK Bawa said that the party has no value for the sacrifice he had been making for so long.

Further, KK Bawa said that he had worked for Congress during the dark days of militancy. “I even suffered a bullet shot.”

As he has been denied the MLA ticket, on Monday morning, KK Bawa left the party and decided to independently contest the elections against cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu from the Ludhiana West constituency.

KK Bawa also lashed out at Congress in-charge Harish Chaudhary and accused him of trading MLA tickets. He reportedly said that Congress disappointed him for the seventh time.

Ishwarjot Cheema, Congress’ candidate from Ludhiana South constituency, is said to be a close aide of Bharat Bhushan Ashu, sitting MLA from Ludhiana West constituency. Ishwarjot Cheema had also been the chairperson of the economic and political cell of Congress.

Ishwarjot was also very close to Congress MP Gurcharan Singh Galib who later joined Shiromani Akali Dal. At that time, Ishwarjot also left the party with Gurcharan Singh. However, Bharat Bhushan Ashu made efforts to bring him back to Congress.
